Comcast is connecting hundreds of previously unserved homes and businesses on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket to high-speed Internet from America’s smartest and most reliable converged network. These line extension projects are part of awards from the Massachusetts Broadband Institute’s Gap Networks Grant Program. The Gap Networks Grant Program funds the deployment of broadband infrastructure in areas that currently lack broadband service in Massachusetts. The program aims to expand access and connectivity in unserved and underserved locations – places expansion was previously not economically feasible.

“Thanks to the partnership with the Massachusetts Broadband Institute, we’re able to reach even more residents on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket with our high-speed Internet and full suite of Xfinity services,” said Carolyne Hannan, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s New England Region.

Construction began this month, paving the way for the first homes on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket to be connected and eligible to sign up for Xfinity services by the end of this year. Once completed next year, the project will make Xfinity services available to virtually every household across both islands. Xfinity delivers Internet, mobile, entertainment, and smart home services into one simple, seamless experience – giving customers more speed, savings, and control over their connected lives.

Residents can visit Xfinity.com/mytown and enter their addresses for updates on construction timing and upcoming service availability. In some areas, individual easements may be required to complete construction and bring service to specific properties.

What It Means for Massachusetts

Comcast’s commitment to communities goes beyond building the network and aims to increase economic mobility for the local community and its residents. That’s why Comcast created Internet Essentials, a broadband adoption program that offers eligible households low-cost, high-speed Internet and affordable computers.
